A Minecraft Movie detailed Retrospective: Memes, records, sequel, review!

The (or rather “A”) Minecraft Movie released globally April 4th, and if you still hadn’t seen it, the short of it is: It’s pure, chaotic fun! Aimed at kids, enjoyed by adults worldwide. Inside, you will find every cliche stereotype: A group of misfits, heroes coming back at key moments and more. But the premise gives way for a theater experience where younger Minecraft fans will laugh with joy at the story (and the cute dog Dennis), while older audiences can lose their minds over the many memes that have been “spawned”, or simply look on towards a simpler, more positive tone and creative spark that we may easily forget.

Several YouTubers helped shape the Minecraft Movie, including DanTDM, Aphmau, LDShadowLady and Mumbo Jumbo. The handsome JEB makes a cameo…and ALEX? Iconic sounds include the “Steve’s Lava Chicken“, which got an EXTENDED EDITION with self-aware meme inserts.

Breaking deals, records and Sequel

• The Movie saw one of Mojang/Microsoft’s largest Minecraft marketing campaigns to date. You’ve likely seen the infamous McDonalds toys and beyond.
• The title of “A Minecraft Movie” leaves plenty of room for a future sequel, and online sources confirm that a sequel is in early development. Not surprising, considering the first film’s commercial success and its premise of creativity providing potential infinite storylines.
• A Minecraft Movie broke multiple records, beating other famous game adaptations or superhero films. These include record openings: for Year To Date (YTD), for Warner Bros, for a game adaptation, for Jack Black and for Jason Momoa (domestic market).

Pop culture, Memes and references

• The movie became a meme for quotes such as “FLINT AND STEEL”, “CHICKEN JOCKEY”, “THE NETHER”, “CRAFTING TABLE”, “I AM STEVE” and “The children yearn for the mines”. Cinema audiences would over-react at these sensational in-universe references, leading to chaos…
• Herobrine blesses us with an appearance, though as far as we know, he is not an overarching antagonist… Unless he plots from the shadows.
• The Movie provides more backstory to the piglings, though people have accused it of theft: Ghasts from Captain Sparkez Fallen Kingdom tetralogy, or the Piglin Captain from Bebop Vox’s Enchanted.

I played a bit of survival recently and the sounds these piglins make both in-game and in-movie are disgusting enough to make me believe in their arc. Anyway, the movie promotes CREATIVITY: Time for me to build something new for the stores and portfolio…

A Minecraft Movie cast includes: Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Jason Momoa), Steve (Jack Black), Natalie (Emma Myers), Dawn (Danielle Brooks), Henry (Sebastian Hansen) & Vice Principal Marlene (Jennifer Coolidge). Lastly – Yes, the movie has insane sub-plots including a villager romance.
