WN #24: This artist OIL PAINTS casual survival Minecraft scenes!

WEEKLY NEWSLETTER #24: MINECRAFT NOSTALGIA ARTWORK, “POLSKA GUROM” & BEYOND

Oil-Painting Minecraft scenes

Cayde shared numerous oil-painted game fan-arts over the past months to their Reddit & Instagram. In Minecraft’s case, the paintings show simple tranquil scenes like a diamond house, fishing at sunset, mobs, mining for diamonds…or fighting a warden and messing up a cobblestone generator on SkyBlock!

“22 year old fine artist from atlanta, check out my instagram @Cayde.wav for more of my work”

In their words: “I love the super mundane ones where it’s just someone casually playing, rather than some grandiose scene. Still need to paint the wither though lol. What else would you guys wanna see?”

Gov-approved Polish Minecraft

The Polonika institute (polonika.pl) has been running it’s own Minecraft server since 2021. The server showcases Polish monuments and allows users to contribute builds and learn more about Polish culture and heritage, including running workshops and volunteering. They have a discord with 500 members.

Their IP is the same as the website, versions 1.17 and up. It’s an interesting way to outreach.

The POLONIKA National Institute was established (by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage) in late 2017, aimed at researching, protecting and popularizing Polish cultural heritage abroad.

The Uncensored Library project

Polonika reminded me of the Uncensored Library, “A digital haven for independent information!” Created by the Reporters without Borders organization X BlockWorks (THAT BlockWorks), this freely available map shares suppressed news and important stories through the most unlikely medium – the silly block game.

See their beautifully presented website and learn more: https://www.uncensoredlibrary.com/en
